If the soul is the breath of life, how can a breath of human being live? I don't understand how a being can function and do all the same things without that breath of life. How does that work?

Well, most of them don't know they don't have the breath of life. What happens on a life-sustaining system in a hospital? You have a functioning brain. You even have limited expression.
